Work Areas Environment
  • Area tidy, clean and well kept, floor  
  • Walkways and doorways free of obstruction
  • Emergency exit and routes clearly marked and unobstructed
  • Temperature conditions and intensity of illumination comfortable
  • Hazardous materials not stored along exit route
  • Adequate storage space (filing cabinets, shelves etc.)
  • Step stool available for access to overhead items
Office Equipment and VDU
  • Sufficient ventilation for photocopying machine and laser printer
  • Guillotines have guards or of safe type
  • Paper shredding machines with guards or of safe type
  • Electrical equipment are grounded and with proper wiring and no frayed wires
Training and Emergency Procedures
  • Updated Fire Escape Route posted and all personnel familiar with documented emergency evacuation plan and fire escape routes (at least two alternative routes)
  • Employees participate in fire drill
  • Fire extinguisher and hose-reel familiarization and use provided
  • First aid trained individuals available for medical emergencies
  • Departmental safety induction training held for new employees
  • Specific training provided for specified process (manual handling, office ergonomics, etc.)
  • Emergency 8999 number sticker on telephone set
  • Emergency notification procedures, contacts, and phone numbers are posted
Fire Safety
  • 450 mm clearance maintained from sprinkler heads
  • Fire alarm break-glass and hose-reels unobstructed
  • Fire exits free from obstruction, exit signs readily visible/ illuminated
  • Keep fire/smoke door close and not held or propped open
  • Fire alarm and PA system audible
Electrical Safety
  • Do not use plug with cracks or signs of overheating
  • Extension cords used for temporary power supply only. 
  • Use proper extension cord and multiple adaptor
  • Do not overload extension cord and multiple adaptor
  • Floor free of trailing cables that are potential trip hazards
First Aid
  • Locations of the first aid kits known to staff and easily accessible
  • First aid kit adequately stocked
  • First-aider names posted on first aid box
  • Medication items not stored in first aid box
