Appendix 25D: Insurance Information from Finance Office

  • Public Liability Insurance:
HKUST has arranged a public liability insurance to indemnify against all sums which HKUST shall become legally liable to pay as damages to third parties in respect of accidental bodily injury and/or accidental loss of or damage to property happening in connection with the University’s operation.

In the event of an accident necessitating a submission of insurance claim, the Host PI/Department should notify FO within 30 days of the incident to facilitate claim reporting to the insurance company.

  • Personal Accident Insurance:
A personal accident insurance provides supplementary coverage to individuals regardless of whether an incident is attributable to the University’s responsibility.

NAI engaging in hands-on work is strongly recommended to arrange his/her own personal accident insurance.  Subject to their assessment, the Host PI/Department may arrange this additional insurance coverage for the NAI at their own discretion and expense.

The insurance can be arranged for a group of NAIs on an unnamed basis and activity basis (i.e. a standalone policy per activity).  The insurance premium would be determined by the number of insured persons, duration of activities and risk of activities declared.

Additionally, there is a pre-arranged group personal accident insurance plan (on a self-pay basis or at the Host PI/Department’s expenditure) arranged by HKUST which is specially designed for NAI visiting or using laboratories operated by HKUST on the Clear Water Bay campus.  The Host PI/Department may assist NAI in subscribing this insurance plan on a named basis, if necessary.

To subscribe the additional insurance coverage, the Host PI/Department shall provide the required information to FO for processing.
